It is obvious that when choosing a corner sofa, you should pay attention to the dimensions of the corner. However, how to correctly read the parameters of individual products? The dimensions of a corner sofa – small or large – are always given using the following concepts:- total width – specifies the distance between the outer edges together with the armrests and backrests;
- seat width – means only the size of the place intended for seating;
- total depth – is measured at the deepest point and means the distance from the outer side of the backrest to the edge of the seat;
- seat depth – means the size of the place intended for seating, from the inner side of the backrest to the edge of the seat;
- total height – is the dimension from the floor to the upper edge of the backrest;
- seat height – is the distance from the floor to the upper surface of the seat. It is most often from 45 cm to 50 cm, but some models are higher. It is worth paying attention to this parameter if you plan to place a high table next to a fashionable corner sofa;
- maximum height – applies to modular corner sofas that have adjustable headrests and indicates the range of adjustment; sleeping area – obviously, this parameter applies only to the dimensions of corner sofas with a sleeping function and indicates the size of the seat surface after unfolding the furniture.
- How to determine the dimensions of a corner sofa for a small room?
- What will be the function of the furniture?
- Will the sofa be used for sleeping, and if so, how many people will sleep on it?
- Is the fold-out function important?
- How many household members will use the sofa?
Proportion of corner sofa dimensions to small spaces
Proportionate selection of the dimensions of the folding corner sofa to the size of the room in which the furniture will stand is crucial not only because of the visual aspect. An ineptly selected corner sofa can make it difficult for the household members to function and not fulfill its function properly. A sofa that is too large will overwhelm the interior and dominate the arrangement. On the other hand, too small dimensions of a corner sofa may mean that the furniture will not accommodate all the household members and will not provide the expected comfort. Additionally, it will give the impression of emptiness and uncoziness. Not only the ratio of the length and width of the furniture to the size of the room is important, but also the height proportion. For a room in a tenement house, you can safely choose a high corner sofa with adjustable headrests. On the other hand, in a lower room, a variant measuring approx. 80 cm will work better, which will optically enlarge the space.
